Italy Update

The 2010-11 school year is nearly upon us, so it's time to take another look at the status of our Italy trip. As students and families may recall, there is a self-imposed minimum of 2/3 of each chorus required to attend the trip in order to make it work.

As of today, Mixed Chorus has 27 out of 43 students signed up to go, which is just two shy of the two-thirds number. It looks like that group will make it, but hopefully we'll have nearly all the boys commit to the trip - that will make the voicing balance better.

Concert Chorale's roster is 33, and so far 14 have committed to the trip. That means we'll need another eight CC students to sign up for the trip in order for that ensemble to go. Please talk it up amongst yourselves, and encourage each other to seriously consider taking advantage of this terrific opportunity.

The last opportunity to commit to the trip is when the first payment is due: $500 by September 15!*

*Late payments will be accepted for up to one week with a $20 late fee.

Elijah solos

Any Mixed Chorus students interested in auditioning for a solo in Elijah should begin now to prepare the following (they are all available through iTunes):

4. Aria (Tenor) - If with all your hearts
14. Recitative and Air (Baritone) - Draw near, all ye people
21. Aria (Soprano) - Hear ye, Israel!
31. Aria (Alto) - O rest in the Lord

Students should keep in mind that it is not musically necessary to include all of these solos in our performance. Therefore, we will only employ soloists who have demonstrated that they can adequately perform these pieces. I hope you do them all - they are beautiful! Auditions will be held in mid-October, so start NOW!

New Facebook group for the HHS Chorus

Due to the nature of people and the frequency with which most of us check our email, Mr. Young has asked me to help coordinate a Student-Faculty connection page, where official bulletins and such information may be sent out to all group members, with the speed of Facebook. A link to the group may be found here, and we kindly request that you join. This is, more or less, for the benefit of the chorus as well as your benefit.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         NOTE: You must be on the Hingham High School network in order to join, thus those people who have not yet joined the network ought to make an effort to do so in the near future, in hopes of having this group fully functional by the beginning of next year.

Italy Informational Meeting June 1

Plans are underway for our exciting trip to Italy in April 2011. If this trip is anything like our recent tour of Germany and Poland in 2008, you won’t want to miss it! We will have our first informational meeting on Tuesday, June 1 at 7:00pm at the Hingham Public Library. A tour company representative will be on hand to introduce the itinerary, go over the price inclusions, registration requirements, general travel information and ending with questions.  School policies, fund raising and other related issues will also be discussed. We will be collecting a $30 non-refundable registration fee, which will be applied to the cost of the trip. Parents who are interested in serving as a chaperone can also indicate their interest at this meeting and pay an additional $30 registration fee. Chaperones will be selected in September.
